On September 21, 2016 the Greene County Legislature declared the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the New Greene County Jail complete and available for public review beginning on September 22, 2016. Printed copies of the DEIS are available for public inspection on or after September 22, 2016 at the offices of the Clerk of the Greene County Legislature, 411 Main Street, Catskill, NY 12414.
A Public Hearing regarding the DEIS will be conducted on October 19, 2016 at 6:15 PM in the Chambers of the Legislature, Greene County Office Building, 411 Main Street, Catskill, NY. Written public comment regarding the DEIS will be accepted by the Greene County Legislature at 411 Main Street, Catskill, NY 12414 Attn: Warren Hart, Director Greene County Economic Development, Tourism & Planning, from September 22, 2016 through October 19, 2016 at which time the public comment period for the DEIS will be closed.
Greene County will construct a new 130 bed County Jail with administration and operations spaces for the County Sheriff on 50 acres of land located on Route 9W immediately south of Coxsackie State Correctional Facility to replace the existing County Jail located in Catskill. The existing County Jail is over 100 years old and inadequate to meet the needs of the County and current standards. The new facility will include approximately 84,000 SF of floor area incorporating a public entrance, visitation area, central command, Sheriff and jail administration and staff spaces, intake/release/transport area with vehicle sally port, medical area, mechanical and maintenance spaces, food service, and inmate housing areas with recreational yards. The project involves extension of utility services to the site, including electricity, natural gas and telecommunications as well as public water and sewer services from the Village of Coxsackie. Site improvements will include roads, parking and stormwater management.
