The unequalled beauty of Greene County has always been a strong lure for visitors from the region, the nation and the world. Visitors to our area are coming to America’s first Vacation Land, following a tradition that started in the 1800’s when travelers discovered a world of natural beauty that awaited them, far from the crowds of the big cities. The vistas and sites that inspired the Hudson River School of Painters, our 1874 Lighthouse and the oldest surviving Dutch House in the Hudson Valley are just some of the many attractions that still link us to our rich historic past.

Whether visitors come for the great outdoors or to be entertained, everyone will find something to enjoy. The pleasures of a relaxing vacation just for two can be experienced with a stay at one of our many charming inns and bed-and-breakfasts. Great memories can be created for the whole family at our all-inclusive resorts, game farm and water park. From the beginning of the fly-fishing season and the tastings of craft brews and fine foods at Tap NY in April to the end of the winter sports season in March, Greene County has happenings all year-round.

In May comes the Hudson River Shad Festival at the Historic Catskill Point and a celebration of Ireland in America with the East Durham Irish Festival. The Farmer’s and Artisan’s Market opens in June with many other great shopping possibilities throughout the summer at Market Days in Cairo and at the Mountain Culture Festival at Hunter. Take in the Antique Machinery & Agricultural Festival, watch the antics on the river of the Rip Van Winkle’s Wacky Raft Race, take part in a celebration of Celtic Spirit including Pipe & Band competitions, ride to the Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Festival, take a stroll at the Windham Autumn-A-Fair, discover the wonders of nature’s own products at the Ginseng & Natural Herbs Festival and dance up a storm at the Oktoberfest. Come discover Greene County!
