BackgroundThe Greene County Department of Planning and Economic Development led the creation of a comprehensive hazards-mitigation plan for the County and its 19 municipalities in 2009. The plan addresses a variety of potential hazards and allows the County and its participating municipalities to be eligible for future mitigation funding from FEMA. The plan includes a risk assessment and a hazard-mitigation strategy. The primary hazard in Greene County is flooding, but other potential hazards were analyzed including severe storms, severe winter storms and wildfire. Funded by a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the plan was prepared in accordance with state and federal standards and guidance.
