What We Do

Our goal is to effectively maintain and improve the Highway and bridge infrastructure of Greene County, for the efficient and safe use of the traveling public.

Work ranges from sweeping and plowing road and bridge surfaces, to complete deconstruction and reconstruction of both roads and bridges.

The department maintains its own fleet of light and heavy equipment and the personnel to operate and repair it.

Greene County is 653.8 square miles in size with 14 municipalities and 5 Villages. It has 261.49 miles of County roads, with 134 bridges, and 147 culvert structures measuring 4 feet in diameter or larger.

Currently the Highway Department has one main office building located at 240 West Main Street in Catskill, and four substations located throughout the County. Two of the facilities are located on the Mountaintop, Ashland and Hunter, and two are located in the valley, Coxsackie and Freehold.
